Holiday Closure: MLK Jr. Day

The Willmar Library will be closed on Monday January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  The library will reopen at 9 am on Tuesday January 21st.  

Cure Your Cabin Fever at the Willmar Public Library


Looking for some fun activities to get you through the cold, dark middle of winter? Join us at the Willmar Public Library for a series of 11 Cabin Fever programs. For each Cabin Fever program you attend, you will receive a stamp on your punch card. Each stamp equals an entry in a drawing for a $100 gift card! Don’t miss out on the fun! Programs are for all ages unless otherwise noted.

Escape the Upsidedown: As a member of the Hawkins AV club, you are distraught to hear that your friend Will has gone missing. You and the remaining members of the party find yourselves in the principal’s office, where you discover a police file along with a strange locked box that you realize contains the mysterious portal between you and Will. Upon closer examination of the evidence in the file, you realize that Will is trying to communicate with you from the Upsidedown. Can you decipher his messages, and get him back to the portal before it closes for good? The team with the fastest time will win a prize.

Tuesday, January 28 | 5:30 PM

Teams of 2, 45 minute limit. Register here 

Team Iron Chef is a timed cooking competition where teams of 2 people compete to see who can make the best grilled cheese sandwich using only the ingredients provided. The catch is that teams must compete in mini-challenges to receive their ingredients! A panel of judges will score each sandwich and the winning team will receive a prize.


Bad Art Night

Wednesday, January 29 | 4-6 PM

Sometimes it’s good to be bad. Let your creativity run wild and don’t be afraid to fail at Bad Art Night! Bring your creativity, or lack of it as the case may be, and use our supplies to create something wonderfully horrible. At 5:45, we will have a gallery showing of all the art made. Winner of the most hideous piece created will win a very tacky trophy, a prize, and the glory of being the worst of them all! 


Disney Trivia Night

Thursday, January 30 | 6 PM

Disney fans, this is for you! You and your team (up to 6 members total) can battle it out for ultimate Disney fan! Individuals are also welcome (we will connect you with a team). Trivia topics will include Pixar films, as well as classic and contemporary Disney films. The team with the most points will win a prize!


Nerf Wars (Ages 14 +)

Friday, January 31 | 5:30 PM

Bring your friends for a fun night of Nerf games at the Library! Bring your own unmodified Rival blaster OR reserve a library blaster here. Blaster rounds will be provided by the library. This is an after-hours event, so don’t be late because the doors will lock at 5:30 PM. Ages 14-17 will need to turn in a signed permission form by Monday, January 27.


Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, February 1 | 10 AM

Use your creativity and searching skills to find all the items! Bring your team of 2-6 players and a phone or digital camera to take photos and wear comfy shoes and warm clothes to walk within a 2 block radius of the library. Fun for the whole family! The team with the fastest time will win a prize!


Building Challenge

Wednesday, February 5 | 5:30 PM

Attention builders! Do you have what it takes to create the best design? The library will supply the LEGOs®; just bring your creativity and building skills. Contestants may enter individually or as part of a team. Children under 8 years of age must be supervised by an adult. A theme will be announced before beginning, and winners for best design and most creative will be chosen by a judge.



Saturday, February 8 | 2-3:30 PM

Come on in and sing your favorite tunes! Sing karaoke solo or request a little back from the audience with a sing-along. Use this form to request your favorite songs.


Game Night

Wednesday, February 12 | 6-8 PM

Game on! Play an old favorite or learn a new game. The library will supply board and card games for all ages or bring a favorite from home. Come solo or bring the whole family!


Finding Nemo Interactive Movie (Rated G)

Thursday, February 13 | 5:30 PM

Join us upstairs at the Willmar Public Library for a new twist on movie night. Props and scripts will be provided for a fun movie experience.


Dance Party

What’s the best way to celebrate the end of Cure Your Cabin Fever at the Willmar Public Library? With a dance party of course! Use this form to request your favorite party songs.


Winter Reading

Snow is Falling, Books are Calling. Winter Reading Program 2020

January 2 – March 2

There is a chill in the air and snow on the ground. That can only mean one thing – it’s time for Winter Reading! This program rewards you for what you love doing – reading! Participants will receive up to two prizes for every five books they read or listen to. It’s easy to participate since all you have to do is write down the title and author of the books you read. Audiobooks, eBooks, and regular books all count towards the total. At the end of the program, all the reading records will be entered in the grand prize drawing. Adults 18 and over, stop at the Information Desk from January 2, 2020 to March 2, 2020 to participate or print a reading record here.
